I have just done a search on facebook for stockings just to see what popped up. Well, there are number of people with surname "Stockings" - I wonder if any of them wear stockings?

There are definitely a lot of interesting surnames out there, some of which could be a bit unfortunate. I once had a friend with the last name of "Greed" and I think she felt very self-conscious about it.

Imagine the conversation after several injections and a filling:
Dr Fang: All done, tell the receptionist to book you in for 6 months time.
Patient: Do you expect me to talk?
Dr Fang: No, Mr Bond, I expect you to die!!

There was a Reverend Warlock as well, archbishop of somewhere I think. First name Derek.

Sussex Nylons, give them a 'poke' and see what you get in return.

I remember seeing something on QI (the tv programme) about being more likely to do something because of your name. For example someone with the surname Baker might be more likely to become a baker. I cant remember what the term is called though Confused

I can imagine someone with the surname of stockings maybe being a bit more inclined to give them a try.

Also people with the surnames Archer or Cartwright, are from families who used to make bows or carts, in ye oldy times anyway. Maybe there families were involved in stockings at one time

Anyway this talk of bakers has made me hungry

I swear this is true!
Bent was a popular name in Denmark long ago (still in use but falling out of favor now) and I ran into a guy named Bent A. Cock years ago and had a hard time(no pun intended) not laughing.
Really can't improve on a name like that!

My married name, which I'm expecting to get sometime this year, is pretty much all I'm not looking forward to of married life.

Goosey.

I'm going to take it, and our kids will inherit it. And I really want us to have a daughter named Lucy. I didn't believe it was my fiance's name before cross referencing his drivers license and passport.
However, having spent this long as a Williams in Wales, I'll be glad to get rid of my surname. I once went to the library without my card. So many people in Cardiff have my name they had to use my *phone number* to find me. I mean middle name too!

However, as I'm not planning to lay eggs or get eaten at Christmas I can't say if Miss Stockings would wear them. Or Mr Stockings. Titter.

Fang is a Chinese surname, as is Feng; both names could be variants of Fong as "Wang" is a variant of Wong. Star Trek Voyager fans may remember the actor Garrett Wang who portrayed the character Ensign Kim. San Francisco residents may recognize the surname "Fang" as the current publishing family of the SF Examiner as well as being involved with local politics.
