dell vs hp vs lenovo for PC Fri, 18 April 2008 23:39 Go to next message

Hey people,

I'm almost ready to make my purchase for shipping with UPS, where they give me some credits for buying a PC. Basically I'll just use their desktop "Worldship" software, although I may also use the PC for the UPS website. but no plans for anything else with the PC.

So... should I use dell or hp or lenovo? Those are the 3 PC suppliers.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

In my opinion, Mike, Dell & HP both suck big time (for various reason's), I wouldn't ever own or use either of those two computer barnds... unless I absolutely had to! Rolling Eyes Some family members have unfortunately had both Dell & HP brands... and again, they definitely both suck big time. Thumbs Down Thumbs Down Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

If those are the only three that you have to choose from... then if it were me, the Lenovo (used to be IBM), is the only one I'd consider.

With my business, we've used custom-built Sager notebooks [ http://www.sagernotebook.com/category_browse.php?cid=&pl atform=Intel], and custom-built Gateway/MPC notebooks [ http://pro.mpccorp.com/commercial/store/notebooks/overview_t ransport.html] for many years, (since the mid-nineties), and have always been SUPER satisfied with their performance, quality, and very low (if any) tech issues. Thumbs Up Very Happy

Mike —— Keep in mind that alot of reseller's — still sell older generation CPU's — such as CoreTDuo's (NOT CoreT2 Duo) and even CoreTSolo's and PentiumŪ M's. If you can go for a notebook, with your selection, (and if you can have it customized before it's shipped to you), and are looking for the latest and greatest in an Intel Processor... then don't even look at anything less than: [T8000 series] or [T9000 series] CoreT2 Duo Mobile processor's.

Intel platforms, are still better platforms than AMD platforms, performance wise, plus they run cooler too, (which means they should last longer). Wink

Thanks guys - unfortunately with this UPS system, there are ONLY the 3 choices of Dell HP Lenovo. It's a situation where UPS lets us buy equipment up to $1250 and we have to ship $145000 worth of UPS shipments from our warehouse for a 3-yr period. IF we are 10% short then we'd pay the 10% of our total bill. Thus our total risk is the full 100% of the total bill (ie if we fail to ship a single parcel in 3 years), after the 3-yr period is finished. If we exceed the $145000 shipping, then we don't get anything.

Thus it's good to know these other options, but in this case I can only choose one of these 3 PC suppliers. Whacky!

I felt prejudiced about Lenovo because HP and Dell are both US-owned companies, even though I'm sure Flextronics makes all the PCs for these 3 firms. I do fear about which company will give decent service during any possible PC disruption, that would be a total nightmare.

Not that you asked but in the end I went with HP products for my UPS system... should receive delivery in mid-May, hopefully before I take a 10-day holiday to NYC!
