Hold Ups don't do it for us. Why? A date at an Indian restaurant. black dress, PP Hold Ups......fell down on the way in, fell down on the way out.
Any more amusing stockings experiences?

I never had much luck with hold ups (thigh highs) so I gave up on them a while ago. My garter belt has never failed me.

Wife wears thigh highs most days. She never has a problem and they look great. She wears Hanes Silk Reflections thigh highs, lace top and non. Both are nice and stay up well for her.

I have some PP holdups and this only because a problem if i have applied lotion. The silicone only grips well on clean skin. Other reasons might be that the leg of the stockings have to stretch too high and the hold up band isn't tight enough which happens if you have long skinny legs.
In any case, I'm not a big fan of PP. I own two pairs and neither meet my expectations in terms of looks or functionality. I would suggest Le bourget two tone hold ups or Palmers which are on sale right now. These brands are pricier, but I find that they work better for me than PP. Aristoc ultra gloss holdups in illusion are also very very nice. I rather like the ribbed detail at the welt too.
I hope this helps.

at the diana concert on sunday, during take thats frst song, the women dancers were wearing hold ups, and after a few minutes, one poor woman had one hold up down to her knee and the other down by her ankle. Did any one else see that? so for me hold ups are no no.

I've had a few embarrassing moments with hold ups that don't hold up.
One in particular involved me standing in the middle of London Bridge during evening rush hour and having to pull them off. Not only did I then have the indecency of going home bare legged, it was the middle of November.
I never wear them now - I have the long skinny legs problem.

my g/f has never had any issues, no matter what the make, cheap or expensive. Interestingly she does have the issue with stockings falling down and ending up just above the knee! Sizing issue?she is 5"2' size 5 foot so buys small most of the time. Suspender belt issue?

Being similar size to your girlfriend, I'd say its a belt issue.

Tried PP holdups once. They fell down and wouldn't stay up. Took them off in the works toilet, went straight back to the belt and stockings.
I sometimes have an issue with the Charnos 24/7 stockings as they have a fair amount of lycra in them and seem to want to revert back to their original size, which usually involves tightening the waist band on the belt and doing a bit of adjustment in the loo.

I once had a very embarrasing moment with hold ups in the UK, i was an Estate Agent and was showing a client around a house i proceeded to go up the stairs closely followed by the client when one of my holds fell down around my ankle needless to say on future appointments i no longer went up the stairs first and stuck to wearing stockings rather than hold ups.

I've worn Levante 15 hold-ups and some Levante opaques for a few years and they stay firmly in place. I like them nice & high
because we Midwesterners are shy about flashing and I've had no problems. I mentioned in the product-forum about one time a stocking slid down my leg as I was walking up to my house. That pair had been worn numerous times and I know now to examine the elastic for wear. I also wear the Levante micro-nets. Unfortunately the Levante 15's are no longer available and I'm going to try the Levante Romantics. Sounds like I won't be trying Pretty Pollys any time soon.

The wife always struggles with hold ups, she has reverted to suspender belts to save her modesty, I am quite happy about that

Wifey likes holdups for the convenience factor.
She will quite happily wear them over going to the bother of a belt and clipping up stockings.
plus the fact that they tend to do more 'fashion' ranges in holdups than real stockings anyway.
I dont complain.

You have constant trouble with your stockings, and you have long skinny legs...?
I think I love you

I quite like holdups with some outfits. Bought some from La Senza as an emergency pair and was amazed how well they have stayed up.

Oxymoron in my experience!
The first hold-ups had an elastic band/garter at the top which was either too loose or formed a tourniquet on both legs (and I've slim-ish legs).
Much later came the type with a sticky band, better, but it didn't always stay stuck. I've tried those with a wavy sticky band at the top (they were lace-tops, which I wouldn't generally wear), better, but I was still conscious that something was stuck rather precariously and felt like it could decide to descend without warning.
I recall being in a car park and having to decide if I tried to hike one back up or remove the other when some coloured hold-ups didn't (had to discard both) and I've a couple of pairs of winter boots will usually pull down anything which isn't firmly fixed!
A friend wears hold-ups most of the time, but, err, she has "short fat little legs" (lets hope she doesn't read this!)so mybe they are 'that size' and not mine (I've not got long legs, but they are fairly slim, I like to think).
I think I'd wear hold-ups if I had ABSOLUTELY no alternative ...and I mean absolutely!) otherwise it's a no-no as they and I certainly don't get on!

About fifteen years ago I had a public fall down while shopping with a friend. I felt how the stocking on my right leg started to lose grip and slowly, slowly, travelled down. Initially I tried to stop it by pressing my hand against my thigh, but to no avail. We went into a cafe and I evacuated into the powder room, where I quickly locked the door behind me, only to find out it was completely dark and I could not find the light switch. Purest comedy.
I adjusted everything in complete darkness, flushed the toilet to cloak grounds for my visit, and spent the rest of the afternoon in permanent anxiety, fearing my hold ups would not hold. They did, barely.
Since then I have found better brands of hold ups, but from the day I discovered nylons, these are what I wear most, with three suspenders per leg. Garters have never failed me. On the rare occasion when I do wear hold ups, wearing stockings (even modern elastic ones) the next day feels so much better. With hold ups it feels like my legs are strangled and my skin can not breathe. Can't be good for circulation. And I too am the skinny type.

I find that Aristoc holdups work best, tho' I prefer stockings & a belt. Holdups are good if you are in a hurry - & they stay up, of course. I too, have suffered the falling down experience with other brands

Good to see this topic is still current.
It seems they still have not got the technology right.

I wear two brands without any problems, Barcelona from Classic Charms and Dim Up from a local supermarket. They both fit me very well.
