Hi All,
Like others it seems I have been hovering on the fringes for a while but have just got the courage to sign up 
I love the vintage look and following a recent wardrobe malfunction with hold ups (always feel unsecure) and hating tights (never fit) I have decided to invest in stockings and do things properly.
I bought my first suspender belt (vintage style black six metal clasp) and despite trauma on first outing (falling over, needing stitches in head AND destroying beautiful pair of expensive seams in process - don't ask and no there wasn't alcohol involved) I am determined to wear them on a regular basis.
I love the retro look and was wondering if I could have some pointers....
1 - whats the diff btn FF and RHT(?)
2 - can someone recommend a classic everyday stocking that is retro looking but at an ok price (girl on a budget i'm afraid).
3 - Whats the average you pay for an everyday pair?
4 - Sizing....I bought two lots for my first trial and the Pretty Polly retro ones seem a great fit, other vintage ones were way too big. I'm 5ft7/8 and 34" leg so quite tall but weigh 10st so not overly 'big'.
I'll leave it at those for the mo but would really love some help/info as most of mates (age 25!) think I'm a bit nuts for wanting to do something so 'old fashioned' and unfortunately I have no style icons in my immediate family to assist!!!!

Welcolme,Vintagebelle.A FF or Full Fashioned Stocking is a stocking made on an original loom flat and then stitched into shape thus producing the seam and a finishing loop, the key hole, at the top or welt.The traditional nylon of the 1940's and 50's. Still made but not budget price.
RHT is reinforced heel and toe. Basically a double layer of nylon at the places that hosiery wear the most quickly.
As for you other questions I think that the place to look is the SHQ Shop and some trial and error to find what suits you the best.
I am sure that lady posters will point you in the right direction.

1. FF or Fully fashioned nylons are usually much longer and have a seam and a keyhole at the welt (this is not a manufacturer fault, by the way). They are often very soft and always come out of the packet looking very long. They are also very sheer and deserve a fair bit of respect but look fantastic.
2. RHT are the stockings with reinforcing on the toe and heel part (means they are less likely to run on the heel and toe). They have no seams (unless specified) and, again come in longer varities and have a bit of stretch unless you come up with the non stretch ones.
3. Classic looking stockings include Cervin Capris and Nymphes which are very durable. The clio Bas prestige are quite good and the older Aristocs Grosvenor if you want a non-black stocking - they are also very durable.
4. About £3.00 a pair, although some I own are less than a £1.00.
5. Try the French ones if you are a size 10. French legs are thinner than British.

Good to know some of our younger ladies are starting to wear.
A good place you may find some vintage stockings is in your local charity shops. We found a couple of good vintage pairs last week for under a pound.
Can also recommend the Silky Seamed stockings from SHQ shop. They have a point heel and are 15 den, so a bit thicker than vintage. Great for everyday wear especially a £2.49 a pair.

i to am new to this site and i admire a woman with style it cost me a relationship of 12 years because i liked seams and heels and a woman to dress up just for me self centered yes but the right people will appreciate your efforts and style some people may become jealous but you should not care it is a free world and it seena to me there are many people who would appreciate your efforts good luck and i hope you keep it up it is was fantasy and mystery are made of thank you

As most of your questions have been answered, i only have to add that not all FFs are longer. Vintage stockings tend to be shorter so any vintage FFs you may find will be quite short compared to modern FFs. The material was also different. I have several pairs of cotton FFs as well as 30 denier FFs in my collection. The materials for these are quite thick and durable. Even 15 den FFs from the 50s are thicker and not as soft as modern FFs. However, they are incredibly sheer and provide the most beautiful finish. In terms of weight, the Cervin nylons feel more like vintage stockings than Gios or other brands i've tried. However unlike vintage stockings the cervin nylons produce a weird rasping sound when your legs rub against each other.
If you are on the thin side you may want to search out some vintage FFs or RHTs
