Hello all,
my lovely girlfriend, who doesnt often wear stockings, has bought a knee length skirt and we are going out on saturday and sunday... she agreed in principle to wearing S & S but the skirt is quite tight and being shy she is worried about the suspender bumps showing. The suspenders will seem much thicker because with her, they have to be shortened a lot and so they will fold over, so to speak.
I wasnt too worried until earlier, when she bought a pack of tights at tesco as a 'plan b' for going out in...
Any suggestions to help?

Remind her that practically every time she's stepped outside the door since puberty, that people have probably been able to make out her bra straps quite clearly (when she takes her coat off anyway)?
It's such a shame that people feel insecure about what others think of them, my wife is just the same. Hopefully she will rise above it.
Good luck, let us know how you get on!

If she's that worried, a slip might help her confidence and, given the cold nights recently, keep her warmer

I worry about showing bumps at work, but/because they are kind of sexy, so I understand her concerns.
It may be a bit late for the weekend, but I find my OBG doesn't show as much strap because they're shorter (you mentioned her's are doubled because they have to be shortend. Is she petite?) You can also get replacement straps or have a good seamstress shorten the length of the straps. (again not much good for this weekend)
Lastly, why don't you pick up a really nice pair of holdups as an alternative to tights (Tescos?! yuk!)

I have never worried about the bumps showing and I wear stockings with garters every day. The shorter straps help. So does wearing a jacket or sweater if it is long enough. Most people don't expect, look for or notice the bumps anyway. Good luck.

I do not think many people would know what they were seeing if the bumps did show.

Hi. Tell your lady not to fret, this is very easily handled.
What I do is to angle the front suspenders in to my thighs and attach the stockings there - that way the suspenders are held back from the surface of the skirt and nothing shows. The back suspenders are easy too - they are usually at the side anyway so just align them with the seams of her skirt and they won't be evident.
And as Ellen says, a blazer or a jacket will also take any eyes away. Let your lady read this - I don't worry and people don't really notice as far as I can see. And as someone else said above, look at bra straps.
By the way, the above procedure also works with tight trousers.

Thanks to all for your replies.
She has said she'll try on the S & S with the skirt before we go out (with her parents - hence her embarrassment!), so i'll mention the suggestions made. The skirt is quite tight (thought that was a good thing!) but fingers crossed the sussies don't show too much. She is actually quite petite so i might hunt round for short-strap suspenders for her.
And as for hold ups she doesn't trust them!!
Will update after the weekend...

By the way, for future reference, Wolford's so-called "stocking belt" is the best for wearing under smooth clothing. It is smooth, simple and elegant and the material is soft and has no ridges. By Wolford Body Culture.

Oh, and I forgot to add, you can find Wolford Stocking Belts on eBay. They may seem slightly on the expensive side but they are worth the money because of their special material that makes them energizing and they're the kind of thing you might wear for life. Maybe SHQ should stock Wolford. Selfridges and others do. There are Wolford shops in major centres as well of course - 3 South Molton Street in London. And no we do not have shares.

I have worn s and s for ages even with very tight skirts, but most of the time I wear a slip under mine. You would need very good eyesight to make out bumps and very bright lighting to make out the bumps in a skirt, even if you knew what you were looking for. I have worn very plain black skirts, check skirts and grey herring-bone with my hosiery and find that the black skirts usually work the best. The pub or restaurant you go in will need to be VERY well lit for anything to show.
And I have worn mine in an office with a load of older men who worked there who would remember a time when ALL women wore stockings. And they have NEVER commented, although if they knew I did wear these things, they would!

| Long Leg Panty Girdle |
Fri, 02 May 2008 23:38 |
|
A long leg panty girdle with garters inside the leg will reduce the bumps considerably. To reduce them further, turn the garters over so that the round 'nub' is against the leg instead of away from it. This is easily done with a llpg that has detachable garters. Just remove the garter, turn it over and re-attach.
Don't like the idea of a panty girdle??!! Well try it. You may just be delighted with the feel and the result.

My guy thinks the bumps showing is part of the turn on. I was uncomfortable at first as well. But lets face it, only other stocking savy people know what the bumps are, know enough to notice and know enough to be turned on, all others don't notice and don't care. so... if it makes the man your with excited and proud to be with you and you are tastefully dressed. DO IT!

Bumps? Who cares.
On Saturday night my wife and myself went to a party where one of the invited guests is a hypnotist!! As the evening wore on the chap that could hypnotise asked for a volunteer or volunteers. At least 5 folks volunteered to be placed in hypnosis. Two of them were female one was wearing slacks and the other a dress with dark nylons. After asking the volunteers to make themselves as comfortable as possible he began to relax them. As he said to them your so relaxed and deep now just relax and sleep. As he was relaxing the subjects the one gal wearing a dress was so relaxed that her legs began to spread apart revealing dark stockings. She did not seem to care and just sat there hypnotised and under the influence of the hypnotist.
At no time did she ever worry about BUMPS!!!!!

A belt with suspender tab ribbons make bumps even more visible.
So, prefer sussies which don't have 'em. Otherwise cut off these needless decoration.
Just simple and total plain OBG's are best.

Just a post script to this topic, my girlfriend ended up not wearing a skirt & hosiery at all, as she felt the skirt was just too tight on the waist to go out in!
Better luck next time...

Good idea, Helen. The ribbons look so pretty, but they do get in the way when trying to do the clips up, especially at the back!

Suspender bumps are almost invisible, in my opinion. Nobody will notice.

I must disagree, you can definately sometimes see strap marks & bumps from a suspender belt under a tight skirt / dress.
Wifey wears a Rago pull on (with metal clasps) and a satin pencil skirt and you can definately see the outlines.
I think it is quite erotic to view, but not sure she would be happy to venture out knowing everyone knew what she had on underneath so she checks with me beforehand if i can see anything.
(by the way - i like the comparison between bra & suspender straps - never thought of it that way before).

OK OK I'm wrong, I'm just not a stockings perv who examines every inch of a woman to guess what she is wearing underneath her outer garments. I prefer to quietly appreciate from a distance.

I can understand why she didn't wear the skirt if it was too tight.
There is nothing worse than a skirt which is way too tight.
I have worn tight skirts with hosiery and I still reckon it takes very good eyesight to spot anything, but the best skirt to wear with s and s is a looser one preferably lined, with a slip.

I think I can reply with a slight deviation to the topic.
I arrived at my girlfriend's house earlier in the week and was gobsmacked at the sight of her in a new minidress. Stunning she was.
When I approached she lifted her skirt slightly and showed the top of her hold-ups. I asked her to walk toward the door and back again. The tops were literally just hidden except as the hem swayed.
She said someone in the office had mentioned she'd shown her knickers once when reaching over a desk but hadn't realised the rest. "Why didn't anyone say something?" Was her query, which I could not easily answer. Perhaps her colleagues were too embarrassed or tried to ignore it? She said she had thought the outfit was just long enough provided she was careful, but clearly she needed to be more so.
Anyway, that particular combination of clothes will only be worn outside the office from now on...

When I started wearing stockings I was always worried about bumps. It seems like people who aren't into stockings don't notice, and the fetishists will figure out or imagine you're wearing stockings whether or not they can see bumps. I can't be bothered to worry about bumps anymore.

Yes, but unlike stockings and suspenders, most women HAVE to wear a bra, unless they are really small (like Keira Knightley) and can get away with two sticky plasters over the nipples to prevent show through.
So bra strap showing has been a bit of a non-issue.

Well maybe so Mich, but there are also examples of blatent showing of bra straps which seems to be perfectly acceptable.
How many times have you seen black bra straps showing with white strappy tops (or vice versa). People don't seem to think this is a problem, so why would anyway pay so much attention to less visible suspender straps?
Don't get me wrong, I know exactly the point you are trying to make, but unfortunately, unless people stop fretting about the issue and make bumps more common place, then the issue will never go away.
People really ought not to worry about others remarks that are made in a manner that makes you feel awkward, I think people that do this generally do it only because they feel somewhat repressed by your determination and stronger character.
Viva la bumps
